How engine tuning works on a petrol Renault Clio

On a petrol car the ECU controls fuelling, spark timing and any turbo boost. A remap re-calibrates those maps within safe limits, so the car responds more eagerly and pulls harder through the rev range.

Renault Clio 2.0 16v 197(3) against other Clio engines

Of the 7 petrol Clio engines in our data, this one comes 3rd for power gain, which is 2 bhp above the Clio petrol average of 18 bhp.

Across our whole catalogue the average petrol remap adds 27 bhp and 51 Nm, so this engine's 20 bhp and 30 Nm sits below that benchmark.
